Origami is the traditional Japanese art of folding paper into shapes. Here are some simple origami projects that you can try as a beginner:
### 1. **Origami Paper Crane**
– **Materials**: Square paper
– **Instructions**:
1. Start with a square piece of paper, color side down.
2. Fold the paper in half diagonally, then unfold.
3. Fold the paper diagonally in the other direction, then unfold.
4. Fold the paper in half horizontally and vertically, then unfold.
5. Push the sides inward along the creases to form a smaller square (this is called a preliminary base).
6. Fold the top layer of the square upwards on both sides, then fold the bottom edges of the triangle inwards.
7. Flip the paper over and repeat.
8. Fold the top layers of each side inward to form a kite shape.
9. Pull the flaps out to form the wings and the body of the crane.
10. Adjust and shape the crane’s head and tail.
### 2. **Origami Paper Boat**
– **Materials**: Square paper
– **Instructions**:
1. Start with a square sheet of paper.
2. Fold the paper in half horizontally and then unfold.
3. Fold the top and bottom edges to meet in the center.
4. Flip the paper over and fold the top and bottom edges in the same way again.
5. Fold the paper in half horizontally (along the original crease).
6. Pull apart the sides of the folded paper to form the boat shape.
7. Gently crease the folds to form the boat’s bottom and sides.
### 3. **Origami Paper Frog**
– **Materials**: Square paper
– **Instructions**:
1. Start with a square piece of paper.
2. Fold the paper in half diagonally, then unfold.
3. Fold the paper in half diagonally in the other direction, then unfold.
4. Fold the paper in half horizontally and vertically, then unfold.
5. Collapse the paper into a square (preliminary base).
6. Fold the top flaps down to meet the center.
7. Fold the bottom triangle upwards.
8. Fold the bottom corners upwards again, leaving a small gap at the top.
9. Pull the sides apart to create the frog’s body.
10. Fold the top corners inwards to form the frog’s legs, and adjust the folds.
